Growing Creativity at State Road Elementary
Take a look at what’s been happening at summer school!
For the past two weeks students have been writing, drawing, and playing… in the garden! In the morning students attended Growing Creativity where they create a hand-made journal and fill it with their own stories and poems. The afternoon class was focused on drawing life in the garden. These student’s journals were filled with colorful pictures detailing plants, animals, and the environment. It could be said that fruits and vegetables weren’t the only life flourishing in the garden these past two weeks!
Farm Exploration Days with the Family
Farm experiences aren’t just for kids – they are for the whole family! Join us for an afternoon of fun, learning, and exploration at Deep Roots Community Farm. We’re offering two different sessions in July.
Forest Forts and Cob Building – Saturday July 9th from 1:00-3:30pm
Let’s build a community! Cob building is a hands-on technique that uses water, soil, straw and sand to create beautiful, organic shapes and structures. We’ll use branches and leaves in the forest to make simple forts and structures and an assortment of natural supplies will be available for younger participants to build fairy or gnome houses. The fairies that live on our farm have a reputation for leaving treasures in fairy houses…perhaps they’ll be up to their magic during this event!
Online registration required.
Print Making and Drawing from Life – Saturday July 23rd from 1:00-3:30pm
Let your creative side soar! Josh Wolcott (M.F.A, M.Ed.) will break down the drawing and print making processes and show us that art can be done and enjoyed by all. We will draw inspiration from the beautiful landscape alongside the bluffs and use farm animals as models. Lila Planavsky (M. Ed.) will then lead us through two simple but successful printmaking techniques on rice paper.
