School Gardens

School garden lessons are one of the most effective ways in getting children to try new fruits and vegetables to change eating habbits for a lifetime.

Therefore, one of our main focuses is our school garden program.

Our involvement with school gardens includes:

  • Offering hands-on garden education sessions
  • Helping to plan, build and maintain gardens
  • Getting fresh produce into cafeteria and classroom snacks
  • Teaching garden-based science lessons that connect to the curriculum
  • Doing taste tests with children
  • Raising and acquiring funds to keep the programs running

We have gardens at the following schools:

  • Emerson Elementary
  • Hamilton Elementary
  • Hintgen Elementary
  • La Crescent-Hokah Elementary
  • Northside / Coulee Montessori
  • North Woods International
  • School of Technology and Arts
  • Southern Bluffs Elementary
  • Spence Elementary
  • State Road Elementary
  • Summit Environmental
