Welcome to HUG (Hintgen Elementary School Urban Garden)!
Hintgen Elementary School is the newest school to Grow La Crosse! The Hintgen Urban Garden, or HUG for short, was designed in 2018 with input from the staff and the Hintgen Garden Committee. Grow La Crosse offers hands-on garden education with each class (4K-5th grade) and this school. We also do taste tests, recess lessons and afterschool lessons.
One special feature in this garden is the Hmong demonstration area. This area is influenced by the 4K teacher PaHoua Vang. She helps plant a few traditional Hmong plants (like the variety of cucumber shown below) and explains how they are used in cooking.
Help Hintgen fund their new garden by becoming a sponsor. Click here for more information.
A big THANK YOU to all of the Hintgen staff, family and friends who have attended the initial garden meetings with us. There are many ways to be involved in this exciting adventure. We will need volunteers for upcoming fundraisers, garden maintenance in the summer, and annual funding for the programming and maintenance. We appreciate any efforts you can contribute.
