9.26.24 “Three Sisters” Companion Planting • Great GROW Get-Together
The “Three Sisters” Lesson This beautiful fall weather has allowed us to have many meaningful and warm garden lessons during the first few weeks of the school year. Almost all classes have had the first of their three fall garden lessons. We are continuing our growing season theme of Exploring Community In Our Garden. In Lesson 2, we will learn about companion planting through the indigenous “Three Sisters” method and story. Students will get to taste a delicious “Three Sisters” salad made from corn, beans, squash and other fresh ingredients. The first class to participate in this lesson even asked if they could take the recipe home. They were in luck! Through a grant from the People’s Food Coop we were able to print recipe cards for all of the students. Learn how you can benefit from that grant below.
