Melons
There were some new melons popping up in the hoop house at State Road Elementary. We explored these with the summer school students along with the history of melons and got to taste test three different types!
The kids taste tested watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew, and explored the differences in sweetness and texture. Watermelon was the favorite of the group!
Fun Fact: Melons were originally eaten as vegetables in ancient Rome; cooked with salt and pepper, and sometimes added to salads!
We’ll keep you updated and volunteers are encouraged to take them and other fresh produce home when they are ripe and ready!
