Join us for a Farm Camp Showcase

This year we were fortunate to have farm camp completely funded by donors allowing more children to experience life on the farm and enjoy nature. We want to share this great experience with all of you. Please join us this week for our Farm Camp Showcase. We will talk about farm camp programming and then give the children a chance to showcase their experiences.

WHEN: Wednesday, July 18

TIME: 11am – 12:30pm

WHERE: Deep Roots Community Farm

Wonderful Weeds at Family Farm Day

Thank you to Rachel Wolf of LuSa Organics for teaching families how to identify, forage, and harvest wild plants at family farm day! Some of the plants identified on the farm included elecampane, mallow, chickweed, lambs quarters, burdock, violet, plantain, nettle, jewel weed, raspberry leaf, purslane and elderflower.

Everyone also made an herbal first aid salve to take home with them!

Painting on the Farm

If you haven’t made it out to the farm yet this summer, it’s not too late! We have more family farm days coming up this summer.

On July 28th GROW will be hosting “Painting on the Farm.” We are excited to have Sam Servais, the art teacher at Onalaska High School, join us to teach a painting class at Deep Roots Community Farm. Come and enjoy the beautiful scenery and atmosphere of farm life, and create your own original painting. The class will be laid-back, and there is no pressure to recreate the same scene as anyone else. Sam will begin by providing introductory instruction on color-mixing and an underpainting demo. Everyone will then break out to recreate the beauty of the farm, so bring your creativity! Feel free to bring a snack and drink as well to keep your painting energy up.

WHEN:  Saturday, July 28

TIME: 2-4pm

WHERE: Deep Roots Community Farm

Cost: $6 per person, $20 per family. (Children 3 and under are free)

$3 supply fee if you don’t bring your own canvas.
