Spring Garden Lessons Have Begun

The grey skies and chilly air couldn’t keep us out of the gardens. This week students began the growing season in their school gardens. We will continue with the lesson theme, Being Plant Scientists, as we Explore the Gardens From the Bottom Up.
Many Thanks to Linda Vale
This growing season will feel very different from many recent years at GROW.  Ms. Linda has been an energetic, positive force behind all of the work done in our organization since she joined the GROW Team in 2017.  As she is steps into a new adventure we want to express our appreciation for the time, knowledge and talent she has devoted so passionately to school garden education over the years. We already miss her dearly, but are very excited for her future plans.  If you see her around town be sure to express your gratitude and well wishes!
Greenhouse Field Trips

We were able to host over 250 learners during the first month of our greenhouse field trip pilot period.  While at the greenhouse students were able to:
•  Learn about the high tech greenhouse systems.
•  Use a recycled can to plant spiderwort in compost (can and compost donated by Hilltopper Refuse & Recycling Service Inc).
•  Learn about hydroponic growing and taste lettuce grown and harvested in our own hydroponic system.
•  Tour and interact with simulators in the Western Technical College horticulture and agribusiness programs.

We will pause greenhouse field trips while we focus on outdoor garden lessons.  Field trips will resume in late fall 2022!
