| Roots & Rest We continued the theme “GROWing Curious Minds: Where does our food come from, how do we prepare it and how do we access it in our community?” in the final garden lessons of the growing season. Students learned all about plant parts. They took a close up look at roots while learning different types help plants grow. Then they helped prepare the garden for a winter rest. It was exciting to have news stations join in one of the final lessons at North Woods Elementary School to highlight all of the valuable learning that’s happened in the school gardens. Everyone wins when you combine great kids with fun and fresh produce! Put your skills to the test in the Kids Cooking Challenge, which will kick off with the Mystery Ingredient pick-up on November 13th. GROW provides the opportunity for kids to get creative in the kitchen for a chance to claim the title of Kids Cooking Challenge Champ. Pick up your mystery produce, create an original recipe with the items inside, take pictures of your final dish, and submit your recipe and photos online. Register by November 8th! Thank You Al’s Musky Challenge Al’s totals are in and he has generously raised an exceptional amount of money to support youth in the Coulee Region. Half of the money raised will be put into an endowment fund. The other half will be distributed to three area nonprofits that serve children. As one of the recipients of this year’s challenge GROW will receive a generous donation that will help provide impactful, hands-on, earth to table experiences.
