Garden Celebration

La Crescent’s Lesson #1

GROW and La Crescent Elementary students explored the school rain garden with a pollinator hunt activity this week. Finding different flying and crawling critters, they worked in teams to check off each item off their list.

The students also ventured into the vegetable garden to identify the different parts of the plants. Again in groups, they were allowed to pick the varying items.

La Crescent Elementary students had the opportunity to taste their own garden harvest! The taste testing included: carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers. Additionally, we had the chance to try a pesto cracker recipe; ingredients grown in the garden.

Edible Schoolyard Update

We are happy to announce that the third week of October we will be planting section #4 of the edible schoolyard in front Hamilton/SOTA Elementary. The ground is prepped and ready for the children to help plant.

We are still working hard to get funding for the rest of section #4 of the edible schoolyard. If you are interested in making this project possible, consider sponsoring a tree, shrub or pollinator patch, please visit our website.
