Summer is in Session!
Ahhh summer! The warmer weather means long days spent outside swimming in the pool, riding bikes along the trails, hiking in the state parks, and plenty of gardening! Although summer doesn’t officially begin until June 21st, we are getting ready for our summer programs where dozens of children will fill our gardens once again. This year, we are offering eight sessions of Farm Camp at Deep Roots Community Farm.
Read more about the types of camps being offered this summer below!
Summer on the Farm
During farm programming, children will engage in the real daily work of the farm including animal care, building and maintaining natural habitats, and helping grow food. We’ll also emphasize forging connections with the natural world and ensure ample time for free exploration and play in nature. Our art projects will explore using larger scale sculpture in the natural environment and will encourage building techniques using abundant natural materials.
Ages: 5-12
Session 1: July 10-13
Session 2: July 19-21
Session 3: July 31-3
Session 4: August 7-10
Time: 9-2pm
Cost: $140
Summer Inspired on the Farm
Join us for this three day farm adventure! We will plant, tend and eat fresh fruits and vegetables from the gardens, build with natural materials, and explore the farm’s streams, forests, and native prairie. We will tend to the farm animals and learn about respectful methods of animal care. And of course, we’ll make some awesome upcycled nature based art projects together. During this session our biology lessons will explore pollinators like bees and butterflies, and we will engage in projects to help conserve their habitats.
Ages: 5-12
Session 1: July 26,27,28
Session 2: August 14,15,16 – FILLED
Time: 9-2pm
Open to: 18 registrants
Cost: $130
Inspired GIRLS on the Farm
During Inspired Girls on the Farm we will be enjoying nature and making art projects together. We will also spend time in the gardens and go hiking along the creek in an effort to encourage healthy eating and strengthen the girls’ relationship to nature. Additional focus will be given to art projects designed to provoke thought, foster kindness and compassion, and to build confidence and sisterhood. Research has found that creating art relieves stresses, boosts self-esteem, and increases empathy and tolerance.
Ages: Girls 5th grade and up (grade in spring 2017)
Dates: July 17,18,19
Times: 11:30a.m. to 4:30p.m.
Open to: 16 registrants

Inspired Little Hands on the Farm
We get a lot of requests to extend our farm programming to a younger age, and here it is! Parents and their young children will spend three mornings on the farm, enjoying everything that Inspired on the Farm camps offer, just geared to a younger age. We will meet and learn how to interact gently with the farm animals, explore the woods, fields and gardens, enjoy music and stories during circle time, and make some awesome art projects together!
Ages: 3-5 years olds, adult attendance with child is required.
Dates: August 9,10,11
Time: 9-noon each day
Open to: 12 registrants (with a parent or guardian)
Cost: $115
