6.29.2021 Cooking & Art In the Garden

Cooking Fun In The Garden
Last week we were able to hold our first summer school class since before the pandemic started.  It felt so good to have children in the gardens, trying new fresh foods and learning together in nature.  The class titled, “Cooking Fun in the GROW Garden” explored many different flavor combinations using produce found right in the State Road School garden.  Students helped to harvest some of the items and prepare all of the ingredients that went into their creations.

We encourage you to try a fruit, vegetable or herb that is new to you this week.  If you aren’t sure where to start take a stroll through the Edible Schoolyard at Hamilton/SOTAI.  There are chokeberries, raspberries, serviceberries, red currants, pink currants, cherries and mint all ready to be harvested and enjoyed.

You can also join us at any Open Garden to learn more about what is growing and take home anything that is ready to harvest.
Open Garden Art Project and Holiday Break
Join us at the State Road or Hamilton/SOTAI school gardens on Tuesday from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.  We will be painting garden markers together.  You can make colorful garden markers for the school gardens and to take home to add color and information to your own growing spaces. The gardens are producing so much.  You will also be able to harvest and take home your own garden goodie bag!

Take note of the schedule changes due to the holiday.  We will have Open Garden Tuesday this week and Thursday the following week.  We will not have open garden on July 1st or July 6th.
