Wisconsin School Garden Day
Governor Tony Evers has declared Thursday, May 18, 2023 Wisconsin School Garden Day. Wisconsin is a leader in garden-based education. This day brings recognition to the people and programs giving Wisconsin’s youth access to innovative, hands-on educational opportunities.  We are grateful to be a region leader offering school garden lessons at nine schools in the area.Watch the local news tonight to see students at Summit Environmental School planting and reading garden related books in their school garden with GROW Educator, Shelly Staehly and Principal, Oscar Uribe Mardones to celebrate Wisconsin School Garden Day.
Garden Volunteer Orientation Nights
It takes a team to keep all seven school gardens watered, weeded and harvested over the summer.  You don’t need any gardening experience to volunteer with us.  In fact, we have volunteer orientations and weekly volunteer updates to help everyone of our volunteers feel prepared to help in the gardens.

Whether you would like to help two or three times a summer or every week, we are happy to share our garden knowledge to gain your help over the growing season.  This is a great opportunity for busy families to try out gardening while giving back to the community.

Go to our website to fill out the volunteer interest form.  This will ensure you get future volunteer communication.

Garden Orientations are planned for the following nights (click the link to sign up):

Farm Camp is Almost Full
Are you ready to dig, run, build, draw, garden, eat and discover? GROW La Crosse presents Summer on the Farm, where students will plant, tend, and harvest fruits and vegetables and explore where our food comes from. Students will also learn how to identify species and understand the relationship between each part of the farm and the larger ecosystem. We will spend time each day being active outside including: hiking up the bluffs, building forts, splashing in the creek, and caring for the animals at the farm. In this session we will place an emphasis on science – animal behavior, hypothesis formation, data collection, species identification, building connections in the larger farm ecosystem, local signs and solutions to climate change and more.
